The wound is the deterioration of the normal structure and function of the tissue. Wound healing is that a highly controlled set of cellular, humoral and molecular events beginning with trauma results in new tissue formation in a time-dependent and predictable manner. It is not necessary for the new tissue to be formed to be exposed to injury. For example; traumas leading to large skin loss can heal with granulation tissue. This results in chronic wound formation that does not improve any deviation from the wound healing process.
