What is an Oxygen Concentrator?

The air we breathe in the atmosphere contains 21% oxygen (O2), 78% nitrogen (N2), 0.9% argon (Ar) and 0.1% other gases. Oxygen concentrator devices separate the gases in the ambient air with the system we call molecular sieve and produce oxygen with 95% (± 3) purity. Thanks to the molecular sieve, industrial oxygen concentrators can be produced, as well as devices that provide oxygen gas suitable for human health, which are used for treatment of COPD and similar chronic respiratory diseases. Oxygen concentrators are used in the treatment process of many respiratory diseases, at home or in the hospital. These devices can be used alone or can be used with several different devices at the same time. In this article, I will share with you some important information on the most problematic issues in order to use oxygen concentrators without any problems.

Important Information on Using the Oxygen Concentrator

Particles and moisture in the air can accumulate in parts of the device such as compressor, molecular sieve and valve. Special filters are used in the oxygen concentrator to prevent these dangers. Oxygen concentrator filters only allow air to pass through and particles are trapped before they enter the device. In addition, most appliances also have moisture-retaining filters. Their purpose is to prevent the moisture in the external environment from going to the engine of the device and from there into other parts.

If you prefer an experienced technical service for device maintenance, the filters of your device are changed, its valves and fan are cleaned, the engine is maintained, the oxygen output rate is determined, the pressure settings are checked, the inside is disinfected and possible malfunctions are detected and precautions are taken. I recommend you to inquire about the TSE (Turkish Standards Institute) certificate of the technical service you prefer. The company must present this document when you request it. TSE is a state institution and one of its duties is to check whether the companies that provide services work at certain standards and check their compliance with the standards. It gives certificates to companies that meet the criteria. Please do not choose companies that do not have TSE certificate, sufficient experience and technical infrastructure. Remember, such a choice can cost you financially and morally.

"Recommended periodic maintenance is quarterly."

If you regularly maintain the oxygen concentrator, you will avoid most risky situations that may occur.
