Symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apnea syndrome are similar. This sometimes makes it difficult to determine the form of sleep apnea. Common symptoms in both forms can be listed as below:

Snoring loudly (usually more pronounced in obstructive sleep apnea.)

Respiratory arrest attacks in sleep witnessed by someone else

Sudden awakenings from sleep (mostly seen in central sleep apnea)

Mouth dryness or sore throat when waking up in the morning

Insomnia

Mouth dryness and sore throat

Headaches in the morning

Depressive mood

Irritability

Attention problems

Why sleep apnea causes snoring? In order to answer this question, it can be said that accelerated air passing through the narrowed airway and vibrating soft tissues causes snoring sound.
